Potential rioters after being warned to stay away from Carlisle as Cumbria Police has placed a dispersal order on the city ahead of any prospective disorder.
Increased police presence will be in the city centre today, August 7, following disorder and riots across various UK cities in the previous days.
Cumbria Police confirmed they are aware of “reports circulating online of potential planned disorder in Carlisle this evening” and now a dispersal order is in place until midnight.

The constabulary will also use the enhanced stop and search capabilities and authority to order the removal of face coverings intended to disguise or conceal a person’s appearance. Officers will also have the power to seize any item used in the commission of anti-social behaviour.
Chief Superintendent Carl Patrick said: “The dispersal order and the powers which have been authorised are in place to protect our communities from those who may engage in violent disorder.
“We support and facilitate the right to peaceful protest however violent disorder will not be tolerated.
“Public safety is our number one priority, and our officers are here to provide help, advice and reassurance.
“Our advice to anyone considering engaging in disorder is not to attend. Anyone involved in criminality will be dealt with robustly.”
It is understood that police across the UK are aware of more than 100 far-right protests that have been planned tonight.
