West Cumbria Bowls Leagues: Whitehaven, Wigton And Workington Lead The Way With Three Games Left

The Mixed Triples League twisted with Whitehaven and Wigton moving into joint top spot as Workington linger ominously in joint second with Croft.

The county competitions played out dramatic finals over two days of competition with most of the finalists representing the county at the National Finals in August.

West Cumbria Mixed Triples League

Heading into the final four league games on Tuesday, July 23, Whitehaven A moved joint top with a 7-2 against Seascale as Wigton recorded a 9-0 victory over Seaton while Workington sit two points behind after picking up a 7-2 win at home to Harris Park A.

Maryport lost 2-7 against Harris Park B as Cleator Moor got the better of Whitehaven B with a 5-4 win while the bottom two met and Egremont got the better of Vulcan Park with an 8-1 win.

The league takes a two week break with the Knockout Cup semifinals and a catch up week before the teams return for the final three weeks of matches.

West Cumbria Fours League

There is no change at the top after Friday, July 26, as Workington A game with Whitehaven A will be rescheduled.

Maryport picked up a 5-2 win at Seaton while Cleator Moor took a 7-0 home win against Workington B and Whitehaven B beat Vulcan Park 5-2.

Whitehaven A have the chance to close the gap on Friday, August 2, when they travel to third placed Fitz Park.

Maryport host Workington B and Cleator Moor travel to Whitehaven B both hoping the other drops points and Seaton head to Vulcan Park.

County News

The county’s competitions came to a close over the weekend with finals played at Wigton on Saturday, July 27, and Whitehaven on Sunday, July 28.

Most of the players representing Cumbria at the Aviva National Finals were decided with the exception of the Men’s Two Wood Singles which is to be played at a later date.
