In the early hours of January 31, 2024, Kane Queen, 30, of no fixed address, broke into the Co-op store in Denton Holme, Carlisle, by smashing the front door.

Queen then stole several bottles of alcohol before making off on a red bike, a court heard.

During another incident on Tuesday, April 30, residents at a property on Warwick Road, Carlisle, returned to their home where they found a window open and clothes and other items stolen from inside the property.

Queen was seen on CCTV walking toward the incident address, returning around 10 minutes later carrying a blue duffle bag, similar to the one taken during the incident.

The court heard officers attended Queen’s address and inside the property located items matching the description of the stolen items from the Warwick Road address.

The 30-year-old was then arrested on May 26 and while in custody committed a racially aggravated offence directed to an officer.

On Thursday, July 25, Queen was sentenced to 29 months in prison today at Carlisle Crown Court for two counts of burglary and one count of racially aggravated public order.

Detective Constable Ashleigh Hunter said: “Queen is a repeat offender with a clear disregard for the law.

“This sentencing should send a strong message to anyone considering getting involved in such crime that they could end up facing time in prison.

“Cumbria Police takes all reports of burglary extremely seriously and is committed to working with communities to bring offenders to justice.”

The offences were investigated under Operation Themis – Cumbria Constabulary’s response to and focus on burglaries.
