Two brothers have been jailed as it was ruled their previous sentence for a “brutal attack” in Carlisle was “unduly lenient”.

In October 2022, Kenneth Brown, 27, and Shaun Brown, 25, both of Winmoss Drive, Liverpool, subjected the victim to a three-minute brutal attack on Lowther Street, Carlisle.

Kenneth and Shaun Brown have been jailed after subjecting their victim to a “brutal attack”.

A court heard the brothers kicked and stamped on the victim’s head over 10 times leaving him with a broken nose, hand and significant cuts and bruises.

The pair were arrested after being identified as being involved in the incident following a CCTV appeal by police.

In April this year, they had been given suspended sentences for the offence.

However, the brothers have now received jail sentences at a court of appeal after being referred by the Solicitor General to the Unduly Lenient Sentences scheme.

On Thursday, June 28, they were sentenced to three years and six months for attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.

Speaking on the appeal Detective Constable Nick Mandale said “We welcome the revised sentences.

“Kenneth and Shaun subjected the victim to a brutal attack and now will be reflecting on their actions in prison.

“Such an attack could have killed the victim but luckily, he did not sustain more serious life-changing injuries.
