Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire has announced that it is introducing brand new buses for exclusive use in the Workington and Whitehaven areas.
A million pounds investment is putting more buses on the road across West Cumbria.
Four of the new buses will be on the road from this week, while the others will follow in the coming weeks.

This latest investment comes hot on the heels of a £100,000 upgrade to Stagecoach’s engineering facilities at Lillyhall which also includes the recruitment of new staff, meaning their engineering division will be running at full capacity by the end of this month, June 2024.
The new British-manufactured vehicles are fitted with upgraded durable leather seats and ‘Euro 6’ specification low-noise engines – representing the very latest in clean technology, helping to cut carbon emissions throughout the region.
They will be used to replace some of the older vehicles within the West Cumbria fleet.

Tom Waterhouse, Managing Director at Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire said: “We are delighted to introduce these new buses to our fleet in what is a significant investment to local bus services across West Cumbria.
“We recognise the importance of local bus services across the region to all of us who live here, and this investment highlights our determination to deliver reliable, high quality services to our customers.
“This means that there will be more buses on the road in both Whitehaven and Workington, meaning more frequent services and an improved customer experience.
“The new buses also come with low floor access, including a dedicated space for wheelchair users which will improve the attractiveness of local services in many of our communities, especially for customers traveling with shopping or those with reduced mobility. We look forward to welcoming customers on board our new buses across West Cumbria.”
The new summer 2024 bus timetable has been introduced across West Cumbria and will run until November.
