West Cumbria Bowls Leagues: Wigton Move Into Top Spot As Maryport And Whitehaven Drop Points

Wigton moved to the top of the Triples League as Maryport and Whitehaven drop points in the Fours League while Cumbria get off to a difficult start in the county games.

West Cumbria Mixed Triples League

With the top two not playing Wigton moved into first with a 3-6 win at Harris Park A while Croft lost 4-5 to Cleator Moor on Tuesday, May 28.

Fifth placed Seaton lost 6-3 to Whitehaven B as Maryport came away from Seascale with a 2-7 win as Vulcan Park squeezed a 5-4 win at home to Harris Park B.

The league takes a break as the Knockout Cup takes centre stage on Tuesday, June 4, with holders Cleator Moor heading to Whitehaven A and beaten finalist Wigton travel to Vulcan Park.

Workington welcome Egremont as Seascale host Croft and Maryport make the trip to Harris Park B.

West Cumbria Fours League

The chasing pack closed the gap to Workington A but is was not by the margin they wanted as Maryport lost 5-2 at Workington B on Friday, May 31, and Whitehaven A were beaten 2-5 by Fitz Park.

Cleator Moor made it back to back 7-0 with victory over Whitehaven B while Seaton stay in the top four with a 5-2 win against Vulcan Park.

Workington A return to action on Friday, June 7, while Maryport host Cleator Moor and Seaton welcome Fitz Park.

Whitehaven B face Workington B in the B Team battle as Whitehaven A sit this round out.

Cumbria’s Middleton and Johns’ teams were in action on Saturday, June 1.

Travelling to Dunnington to face Yorkshire and despite winning three rinks the Cumbrians lost the match overall 117-115.

In a winner takes all match for Cumbria Women’s Johns Trophy as Nottinghamshire have withdrawn, the trip back from Pelton Fell was not a happy one as Durham won booking their place in the quarter finals.
