Clubs in Cumbria are joining those around the country as they get ready to host Bowls England’s Big Bowls Weekend.
The initiative from the sports governing body takes place from Friday, May 24, to Monday, May 27, with clubs choosing how many days to do.
In 2023 there were 750 events ran by 550 clubs with an average of 30 attendees over the event.
Clubs reported that the age of participants was in the 30-50 range for 2023 and off the back of this years under 18 singles finals that featured 64 young players.
Cumbria also had bowlers at England trials and have announced the under 25 squad for the White Rose Trophy.
There is more reason for people of all ages to attend these free events.
The national body also joined in with Mental Health Awareness Week (May 13-19) supporting the Mental Health Foundation.
With this years theme for the week movement, bowls was highlight for its general exercise, tranquil environment, mental exercise, social interaction and life long participation.
The following clubs have registered with Bowls England to hold an event however there are clubs all over the county that are open to new members.

- Harris Park (Cockermouth) – Saturday 11-3
- Egremont – Sunday 2-4
- Fitz Park (Keswick) Sunday 2-5
- Port Carlisle – Sunday 2-4
- Wetheral – Sunday 2-4:30
- Abbot Hall (Kendal) – Sunday 10-2
- Heversham (Milnthorpe) – Sunday 2-5
- Ulverston Cons – Sunday 10:30 -5:30
- Courtfield (Carlisle) – Monday 2-5
