Scafell Pike Death: Lone Walker Dies Near Cumbrian Mountain

A man has died on a lone walk from Seathwaite on his way to Scafell Pike, Wasdale Mountain Rescue has reported.

Mountain rescue teams, search dogs and the coast guard were called out to search for a lone walker after reports the man was overdue to make contact.

Early on Thursday, May 9, the teams received reports the man had not made contact after a walk from Seathwaite towards Scafell Pike.

Information was gathered and the rescue to teams set out to search for the man.

Despite search efforts the walker was not found, and plans were made for a similar effort with more detailed searches on Friday, May 10.

However, on Friday, the man was found dead near Scafell Massif.

In a statement, Wasdale Mountain Rescue team said: “Our sincere condolences go to the walker’s family and friends. Our thoughts are with you all.

“Thanks to all that supported this significant multi agency team effort. We are very grateful for the help.”
