Coastguard Team Called Out For Distress Flare Sighting In Solway Firth

Whitehaven Coastguard were called out to the Solway Firth as a report was received about a distress flare.

The team were called yesterday evening, May 10, to sightings of distress flares over the Solway Firth.

After visiting the first informant, a bearing was taken from their location, allowing the Coastguard to pinpoint exactly where the flares were seen.

Observing from various points along the coast and speaking to members of the public in the area, there was nothing found and the team was stood down.

A spokesperson for the Coastguard said: “We’re always happy to investigate anything concerning reported by the public, and last night was no exception.

“It gave us a rare opportunity to enjoy the Northern Lights, a first for many of us in West Cumbria.
