Keswick will represent Cumbria in the Papa Johns Cup final as Penrith bow out in the semifinals.
It was disappoint in the Regional 1 Shield semifinal as Cumbria’s Penrith left Leek with a 50-44 defeat on Saturday, May 4.
It was Penrith’s only game in the competition after getting put through after the other sides in their group withdrew from the competition.
However Leek were playing their third game of the competition after beating Scunthorpe 31-41 and Sandbach 45-19.
In the other semifinal Stoke on Trent beat Westcliff 50-35 to meet Leek in the final at Worcester’ Sixways Stadium on May 11.
It was delight in Cumbria however as Region 2 North Shield as Keswick beat West Hartlepool 28-24 on a damp day.
As the side start planning their trip to Darlington on Sunday, May 12, they will be looking to over come opponents Olney, who won 55-10 against Winnington Park.
Keswick are not the only Cumbrian rugby union side heading to a national final as Workington Finches head to Worcester’ Sixways Stadium on May 11 in the Papa Johns Women’s Plate final that they won in 2023.
