Coastguards Called As Suspicious Ordnance Found On Beach

Whitehaven Coastguard responded to a call from the public as a concerning object was found on Drigg Beach.

The member of the public was out on April 28 when the concerning object was discovered.

Alerting the Coastguard promptly and providing them with precise location coordinates using what3words (what3words.com).

A swift response and locating of the object allowed the Coastguard to assess and sent photos to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team for further evaluation.

Given the object’s location was above the High Water Line, Cumbria Police were notified to oversee the scene until confirmation of its safety and subsequent removal could be obtained.
