Hospice At Home West Cumbria Looks To Scale Scafell Pike To Raise Money

Hospice at Home West Cumbria are asking its supporters to scale new heights and climb England’s highest mountain to raise funds to support their cause.

Teaming up with local business Lakeland Mountain Guides, the charity will host a fully guided climb up Scafell Pike in the early hours of Sunday, August 11, allowing participants to enjoy the sunrise and spectacular views of the Lake District from the top of the mountain, while also raising money for the charity.

Holly Harkness, Community Fundraising Co-ordinator for Hospice at Home West Cumbria, said: “We are really looking forward to revisiting Scafell Pike and working with Lakeland Mountain Guides again after hosting a guided sunset walk in 2021, which raised over £10,000. We would love for people to join us on our hike, ticking something off the bucket list while also helping us to continue to provide support for local families going through the most difficult time in their lives.”

Hospice at Home West Cumbria provides palliative and end of life care to patients and their families across West Cumbria.

The charity needs to raise over £1.3 million each year to deliver these vital services which are provided free of charge to those who need them.

This allows the Hospice’ nurses to deliver palliative and end of life care in the patient’s home 24hrs a day, 365 days a year, providing the best possible care for people with a life limiting illness and those who are close to them.

Gemma Bell, Marketing & Income Generation Team Leaderfor Hospice at Home West Cumbria, said: “This challenge is open to everybody, whether you are walking in memory of a loved one, as part of a fitness challenge, or just to enjoy a great day out on the fells. There really is nothing quite like hiking up a mountain at night.”
