Three of Cumbria’s bowlers have been selected to attend Bowls England trials ahead of the 2024 internationals.

Two thirds of Aspatria’s 2022 National Triples Winners and half of Cumbria’s 2023 Under 25 Pair finalists have been invited to Royal Leamington Spa ahead of the 2024 season.

Kevin Harrison and Stuart Irwin will look to continue to be involved with the England team after winning the 2022 triples, they went on to take a silver medal in the same discipline at the British Isles Championship.

The Aspatria trio made a return to the National Finals in 2023 but failed to defend their title going out in the third round.

Also heading to the England trials is Wigton’s Callum Hodgson who made it to the final of the Under 25s Pairs with Fitz Park’ Ryan Brannan in 2023 and also represented the County in the same event in 2022.

Hodgson was also part of the Under 25 White Rose team that won the regional trophy but lost in the semifinals at the Aviva National Finals in 2023.

Harrison and Irwin will join the 24 players men squad as 20 women also head to the trials on Saturday, May 18, before the British Isles Series, a Test Match versus Ireland and the European Championships during the 2024 season.

Wigton’s Hodgson will join 20 women and 23 other men at Royal Leamington Spa’s Victoria Park also on Saturday, May 18.

Before the squad is finalised ahead of England participating in the British Isles U25 International Series in Ireland on Saturday, September 14, and Sunday, September 15.

Attending a one day event are 24 under 18 players ahead of the British Isles U18 International Series in Ireland on Sunday, July 21, and Monday, July 22.

While another 48 players have been invited to the Junior Performance Day.
