Workington Zebra Finches Look For Community Support Ahead Of Papa Johns Plate Final

Workington Zebra Finches are looking for community support as they bid to become the first team to win back to back Papa Johns Plate finals.

The women’s rugby union team have set up a go fund me appeal to help the club meet the cost of travelling to defend their title.

You can support the team here as they look to raise £6,250.

In a post on social media the club shared saying: “This year, 2024, we have reached the final of the national Women’s Junior Plate – for the second year in a row.

“This is chance to make history and become the first team to go back to back in the plate.

“We are so proud of each and every player, family member and supporter that has helped us get there, but we need some help to make our dreams come true and get us to that final.

“Please share and help the Finches get to the Final, Thank you”

In 2023 they beat Avonmouth Ladies 27-22 at Twickenham and this year they have repeated the feat after beating the Amber Valley Tigers on March 24, 82-0.

If they were to beat Westcliff Ladies on Saturday, May 11, they would make history as the first club to defend their title.

The team have also just had nine members of the squad selected to represent Cumbria as Beth Adams, Sophie Bowness, Nicole Stewart (Benson), Lottie Cammack, Lauren Coulson, Juliet Porter, Beth Sunderland, Sophie Weir and Rachael Wood included in the 35 player squad.
