Regional Rugby Union Leagues Come To A Thrilling End

The Regional Leagues came to a thrilling end with side left waiting on results and decisions.

In Regional 1 North West the title went down to the final game of the league season on Saturday, April 6.

Macclesfield sealed the title with a 57-15 win at home to Penrith as Kendal finished as the highest placed Cumbrian team in sixth with a 31-34 win at Stockport while Rossendale finished second with a 14-26 victory at Wirral.

Sandbach moved off the bottom of the table with a 44-38 win at home to Leek and Northwich lost 26-87 at home to Blackburn while Manchester finished the season off with a 18-12 win over Anselmians.

In the Regional 2 North on April 6 Aspatria held onto fifth despite losing 8-29 at home to Middlesbrough as Keswick secured a 21-12 win to ensure their survival against West Hartlepool who finish sixth.

Consett lost 46-5 at Upper Eden while Morpeth were beaten 27-20 at Stockton.

Cockermouth completed their season with a 7-54 loss to Durham City and in a showpiece final game second placed Northern beat champions Percy Park 17-15 stopping them from reaching 100 points.

In Regional 2 North West on April 6 Kirkby Lonsdale beat Crewe & Nantwich 28-12 however Winnington Park also won beating Altrincham Kersal 40-19 to leave Kirkby Lonsdale looking at relegation.

The Cumbrian side were left waiting before they found out that they were staying in the division for the 2024/25 season.

At the top of the league Birkenhead Park finish their season with a 0-67 win at Vale of Lune while Whitchurch won a low scoring game 10-5 against Burnage.

There were two postponed games with Firwood Waterloo’s match with Douglas (I.O.M) and Liverpool St Helens’ game against Bowden both being called off.
