Cumbria Rugby Union Sides Head Into Season Finale With Sides Needing To Win

The Regional League sides head into their final game with some of Cumbria’s sides needing to pick up a win.

In Regional 1 North West the title will go down to the final game of the league season after Macclesfield won 10-45 at Kendal and Rossendale were 45-7 winners at Sandbach on Saturday, March 23,

Blackburn might have already secured third but will look to finish on a high after 24-25 defeat to Manchester while Wirral took fourth with a 24-12 win over Penrith as Anselmians will finish ninth after a 22-12 victory against Stockport and Leek will hope their 64-20 win at home to Northwich will keep them out of the bottom two.

The final league game on Saturday, April 6, has Macclesfield will want to seal the title with a win at home to Penrith who can still finish above Kendal who head to Stockport.

Rossendale will hope Penrith can get a result against Macclesfield while a win for them at Wirral would see them claim the title.

Sandbach need to win at home to Leek and hope Northwich lose at home to Blackburn while Manchester host Anselmians.

In the Regional 2 North the Cumbrian teams were on the road for the last time on March 16 as Aspatria lost 69-7 to champions Percy Park while Keswick were beaten 43-26 at Consett and Upper Eden lost 30-12 Morpeth.

The top three of the league has been sorted as Middlesbrough took third place with a 36-52 win at Stockton as Northern finish the season second after a close 24-19 loss to Durham City.

Cockermouth didn’t make the trip to West Hartlepool and the host were given the game.

Heading into the final game on April 6 Aspatria will want to hold onto fifth with a win at home to Middlesbrough as West Hartlepool head to Keswick who need a win to ensure their survival.

Consett make the trip to Upper Eden knowing a win could lift them up to fifth while Morpeth have an outside chance of jumping from eighth to fifth if they beat Stockton which could relegate them depending on federation who have not confirmed the number being relegated.

Cockermouth welcome Durham City and in a showpiece final game second placed Northern host champions Percy Park.

In Regional 2 North West in the leagues penultimate game on March 23 Liverpool St Helens lost 12-31 to Birkenhead Park while Kirkby Lonsdale surprised Bowden beating them 19-20 to keep alive their hopes of staying up.

Winnington Park beat Douglas (I.O.M) 43-23 to stay two points clear of Kirkby Lonsdale as the two side battle it out at the bottom.

Altrincham Kersal won 21-12 against Whitchurch and Burnage beat Vale of Lune 38-7 in the mid-table battle as Crewe & Nantwich drop to third after a 12-29 defeat to Firwood Waterloo.

On April 6 it is a straight shootout between Kirkby Lonsdale and Winnington Park with the winner staying up but with Kirkby Lonsdale playing Crewe & Nantwich and Winnington Park playing Altrincham Kersal it will be who handles the occasion better.

At the top of the league Birkenhead Park finish their season at Vale of Lune while Firwood Waterloo take on Douglas (I.O.M).

In the mid-table battle Whitchurch face Burnage and finishing their season Liverpool St Helens host Bowden.
