Mark Jenkinson MP took to social media to celebrate Workington Pool receiving over £130,000 in government investment.

The MP posted: “Delighted to see swimming pools across the country will benefit from £60million from the Exchequer and National Lottery.

“This includes Wigton Baths, Workington Leisure Centre and Penrith Leisure Centre, each receiving funding for facility upgrades such as solar PVs, insulation and new pool hall windows.

“Wigton Baths – £47,250
Workington Leisure Centre – £134,127
Penrith Leisure Centre – £165,731

“Swimming is in our blood as Cumbrians. I warmly welcome this funding to make sure local pools continue to be accessible and sustainable.”

He then went on to highlight the campaign he launched to return swimming to Keswick or for Maryport if they had decided to build one as part of the redevelopment of the Wave Centre.

“It is this type of support that Cumberland could have secured for a new Maryport pool or Keswick pool, but have refused.”

The £134,127 funding will be used to install Photo Voltaic (PV) panels and pool cover for the GLL ran council pool.
