Carlisle MP Welcomes Over £1 Million Invested In Carlisle’s For Sports And Transport

Carlisle MP John Stevenson has welcomed two pieces of investment into Facilities in Carlisle that together total over £1 million.

The largest is £974,000 into the Carlisle Truck Stop, Parkhouse Road, near Junction 44 of the M6.

Commenting John said: “I am delighted to see this investment into Carlisle.

“The grant demonstrates the importance the Government attaches to road haulage and logistics and improving the working lives of a significant number of HGV drivers.

“I look forward to seeing the improvements this will bring.”

The £974,000 is made up of 315,000 Government investment from the Department for Transport’s HGV Parking and Driver Welfare Match funding grant scheme and £695,000 related industry investment.

The funding will allow for improvements to be made to welfare amenities, security provisions and HGV parking facilities.

The second is £84,000 of Government investment into sports facilities with football clubs at Gillford Park and Rickerby Park receiving funding for new goalposts.

While Bitts Park will see a tennis court refurbishment, gate installation and a move to online booking.

Commenting John said: “I welcome this announcement of more Government investment into Carlisle – this time into our much loved and well used sports facilities.

“Being active and playing sport has huge physical and mental health benefits and good quality facilities are key to getting more people out and using these.”
