University Trip Ends Up With Penrith Mountain Rescue Call Out

A university trip ended with Penrith Mountain Rescue called out for a suspected broken ankle.

On March 3 after a call to Cumbria Police seventeen members of Penrith Mountain Rescue were asked to attend Coombs Wood, nr Armathwaite.

While bouldering as part in a university trip, a member of the party had fallen and sustained a suspected broken ankle.

They were well looked after by their fellow students until team members were on scene.

The injury was assessed, the ankle splinted, and the casualty stretchered and then extracted in a Team Landrover back to the road.

They were then taken to The Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle for further checks and treatment.

Mountain rescue teams across Cumbria are all volunteers and rely on donation to support them.
