REVIEW: Dune: Part Two ‘Packed Full Of Political Intrigue And Cosmic Wonder’

By Gary

The second part of the sci-fi classic Dune is an action packed cosmic wonder with plenty of political intrigue.

Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) unites with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family.

Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavours to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

This film does a great job of bringing a Sci-Fi classic book straight from the pages onto the cinema screen, it matches the images you get in your imagination when reading the book to what you see on the screen.

Even if you have seen Dune: Part One, I highly recommend you watch it again as Part Two really picks up straight after it ends.

Some people complained Part One was too slow, but you needed all that build up and introduction to the characters and world of Dune.

Part Two is more of an action movie but it still has all the political intrigue of the first instalment.

We have just started March and I think we have seen next Year’s Oscar Winner for many of the category’s, if there is a better film to comes out in 2024 then we will have had a great year.

Oppenheimer should thankful that it was moved from its original release date of December 2023.

All the actors are incredible in this, led by Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides who really shows levels in this that I didn’t know he was capable of.

Whilst I don’t want to go through every Actor, there are some that give standout performances with Rebecca Ferguson as The Lady Jessica giving an assured and commanding performance who no one would dare to cross.

Newcomers to the film, Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha is brutal and menacing as the new villain and Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan exudes an old-fashioned Hollywood class and elegance.

Javier Bardem’s performance as Stilgar is vital to Paul’s success in this movie, his religious devotion and belief in Paul are absolutely unshakable and he helps lead the Fremen into following Paul.

The pacing of this film is impeccable, Director Denis Villeneuve is maybe the best director currently at pacing.

I loved the gladiatorial scene in this movie and the choice to almost make it black and white is a genius move to juxtapose it against the usual colours of the desert planet of Arrakis.

This movie takes the aspects of the first movie and improves upon them in almost every way possible, already writing itself into the books as one of the great sequels.

My Rating: 10/10
