Cumbria Rugby Union Sides Have It All Still To Play For In Regional Leagues

The Cumbria League might be nearly finalised but the regional league still have all to play for.

In Regional 1 North West returned on Saturday, March 2 as new league leaders Macclesfield beat third placed Blackburn 14-29 while second placed Rossendale were 27-5 winners at home to Manchester.

Wirral were 27-15 victors over Kendal while and Sandbach ran out 33-7 winners against Northwich.

Just the two games on Saturday, March 9, with Penrith heading to Anselmians and Leek hosting Stockport.

In the Regional 2 North Percy Park are now one win away from being crowned champions after a 0-57 victory at Stockton on March 2 while Northern were 18-27 winners at Consett.

In the fight for third Middlesbrough beat Durham City 30-34 to move nine clear, lWest Hartlepool sent Aspatria away with a 38-12 defeat while Upper Eden got the better of Keswick 20-13 and Cockermouth were beaten 60-0 at Morpeth.

The division takes a break on March 9 before heading into the final three games over four weeks.

In Regional 2 North West Birkenhead Park beat Firwood Waterloo 17-14 on March 2 while Bowden were 29-8 victors over Douglas (I.O.M) as Crewe & Nantwich moved five points off the top three with a 6-41 win at Winnington Park.

The lead of the chasing pack changed hands as Vale of Lune lost 24-12 at Whitchurch as Burnage squeezed another close game 35-31 at home to Kirkby Lonsdale and Liverpool St Helens went down 8-20 to Altrincham Kersal.

On March 9 Kirkby Lonsdale play their catch up game as they make the trip to Douglas (I.O.M).

In the Cumbria League Carlisle finished their season with a 77-0 win over Aspatria on March 2 while Millom lost their final game 5-20 to Egremont as they claimed the Jackson Cup.

Creighton lost 12-3 to Penrith 2nds to finish off their season with one game to go Whitehaven beat St Benedicts 23-20 to move above them but lost out on third place to Egremont and Windermere were beaten 7-10 by Hawcoat Park.

The league takes a break on March 9 before the final round of games on March 16.
