The Women’s Cumberland County Cup got underway with two sides making it through to the semifinal.
In the all Lancashire County leagues encounter on February 18 Penrith AFC Ladies Development lost 1-2 at home to Abbeytown Ladies.
After a goalless first half Penrith AFC’ Amy Shepherd opened the scoring for the home side before Abbeytown Ladies’ Kate Brown and Hannah Wilson were on target to make it 1-2.
While Stanwix Junior faced a difficult task of taking on high flying Penrith AFC who currently sit joint second in the North West Women’s Regional League.
A first half hat trick for Abbie Forster and a first senior goal for Ellie Gallacher gave the visitors a 0-4 lead.
Another first senior goal this time for Chole Patterson before Forster added her fourth to make it 0-6 and Kayleigh Wharton made it 0-7.
Current holders Carlisle United Ladies were due to face rising Lancashire FA Women’s league side Whitehaven AFC Ladies in the first round on Sunday, February 18 but due to the weather they have been postponed until Sunday, February 25.
Carlisle United have been struggling in the North West Women’s Regional league this season while Whitehaven AFC have been sitting top of the Championship league.
