Overturned Lorries Cause Delays On M6 Cause Delays After Storm Isha

Overturned lorries on the M6 in Cumbria are causing delays while they are recovered after Storm Isha.

The M6 northbound is closed between J43 and J44 near Carlisle to allow for the recovery of two overturned lorries.

A protracted recovery operation will be ongoing throughout the morning.

Diversion Route

Diverted traffic is advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol:

Traffic is diverted from J43 – via the A69 westbound towards Carlisle and the A7 northbound to return to the M6 at J44.

The M6 southbound is closed between J39 (Shap) and J38 (Tebay) to allow for recovery of multiple lorries which have overturned.

Recovery resources are now in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management.

Diversion Route

Road users are advised to follow the Hollow Circle diversion symbol on road signs.

  • Exit the M6 at J39 and turn right onto the B6261 link road to access the A6
  • At Shap Toll Bar junction turn left onto the A6 southbound
  • In Kendal, follow the A6 (Wildman Street and Stramongate)
  • Turn left onto New Road, left onto Bridge Street and right onto Aynam Road and Lound Road
  • Take the third exit from roundabout signed Lancaster A6 (M6)
  • At Romnet Road traffic signals, turn left onto the A6 southbound
  • South of Kendal, take the first roundabout exit onto the A591 southbound
  • Follow A591 and A590 to re-join the M6 at J39
