Cumberland and Westmorland and Furness Councils have issued an update on the number of roads closed.
Storm Isha has caused travel chaos in Cumbria with motorways and A roads closing.
Cumberland Council have updated at 9:25am:
- Access to Carlisle Cemetery (Richardson Street entrance) is closed due to multiple issues with trees
- M6 Northbound between J43 and J44 is still closed – traffic diverting through Carlisle which is causing delays
- Rickerby Park, Carlisle – closed due to flooding
- Wyndham Road, Broughton Moor – road closed due to roof blown off building
- Junction of Oaktree Crescent/Isel Road, Cockermouth – closed due to roof blown off building
Roads reopened
- B5289 Keswick to Lodore Falls – now open
- Cocker Bridge, Cockermouth – now open
- Kirkandrews on Eden to Monkhill – road open and tree now cleared
- Wigton Road, between Bassenthwaite Street and Stanhope Road – debris clear and now open
Westmorland Council have issued an update at 6.30am:
- A684 Singleton Park Kendal CLOSED between Kendal and the motorway due to a high number of fallen trees.
- Appleby Sands Road CLOSED due to flooding from the River Eden.
- Windermere Ferry service CANCELLED on Monday 22 January.
- A592 Stybarrow Crag, Glenridding – flooding issues, passible with care.
- A591 Kendal Fell (Kendal bypass southbound) crews have reduced surface water on lanes, passible with care yet drive with caution.
Roads reopened:
- A6 Main Street, Shap between R. Iversons Garage to Co-Op is flooding reduced and passible with care.
- A591 at Bannerigg and Brockhole visitors centre – flooding, road passible with care.
- A685 Chapel House, Grayrigg – flooding outside property reduce, road passible with care.
- B5305 Penrith to Sedbergham – tree partially into the road, passible with care.
- A65 now OPEN – fallen tree cleared
- A685 Grayrigg – flooding north of the village now CLEAR, travel with care.
- A590 OPEN in both directions following a RTC.
While there are still road closures in place the councils are reminding people to never drive through a road closure that has been put in place and take an alternative route.
Do not drive through flood water, only a small amount of water could damage your engine and cause you to be stuck and need help.
