John Stevenson, MP for Carlisle, recently visited the Heathlands Project in Rockcliffe, Carlisle.

Commenting on his visit John Stevenson said: “It was wonderful to visit Heathlands to meet the staff, users and volunteers and have a tour of the facilities.

“It’s my second visit to the project and it was good to see how the offer has expanded over the years and become more resilient since lockdown and the pandemic.

“It was good to see everyone enjoying themselves in a safe, calm and inclusive environment. Well done to everyone involved.”

Heathlands is a small, local charity, providing training, support and a day service for adults with learning and physical disabilities, as well as a community project for adults who feel isolated or have additional needs.

Activities at the centre include supported arts and crafts, gaming, baking, nature, music and film making.

Trustee and Chair of the Board, Tony Parrini said, “We aim to maintain the safe and peaceful rural environment enjoyed by our Service Users and others that we reach through our activities in the local community.

“We look at peoples capabilities whilst recognising that some are more able than others; no barriers are totally insurmountable.

“We have great hopes for the future and thank Mr Stephenson for his interest.”

The Heathland centre is located on an idyllic semi-rural site surrounded by woodland and fields.

With extensive gardens and woodland walks suitable for wheelchair use along with versatile indoor spaces offering cosy quiet areas, bustling group environments, specialised learning areas, including a kitchen equipped to professional standards, a music room and a digital suite.
