Workington Comets fans have been delighted at the announcement of Craig Cook as captain.

West Cumbrian Cook, known as Cookie, returns to the Comets for the third time in his career after stints with the club in 2009-11 and 2017 when they were at Derwent Park, now the Fibrus Community Stadium.
Workington Speedway promoter, Andrew Bain is thrilled to have Cookie onboard for 2024 saying: “To say we are all delighted is an understatement.
“Craig is a class act and pure box office on a speedway bike.
“With Craig coming back home, I am sure we are going to see the Cookie of old and if we do it should certainly put backsides on seats and shouldn’t be missed.
“We have made a fantastic start to team building and our vision for 2024, and it’s certainly not going to stop here.”
Cook has had an impressive career with appearances at the British Speedway Grand Prix 2013-15 and 2017, National League Riders Champion 2009, Championship Riders Champion 2018, British Champion 2017 along with victories in the Pairs and Fours competitions.
This is the second rider announced for the clubs return to the second tier of British speedway with Sam McGurk staying with the team as they move up.
The 2023 season proved a successful one for the team as they returned to the scene at their new home of Northside with Connor Bailey winning the National Development League Riders Championship at Northside.
While riders McGurk, Ace Pijper and Luke Harrison taking part in the British Under 19 finals at Birmingham.
