Cumbria’s Rugby Union Sides Play Penultimate Game Of 2023

After all the extreme weather conditions put a dampener on early December Cumbria’s rugby union sides have played their penultimate games of 2023.

It is going to be a tight finish to Regional 1 North West as leaders Rossendale beat Leek 19-34 on Saturday, December 9, to maintain top spot while Blackburn were 42-14 winners against Sandbach and Macclesfield won 22-10 at home to Wirral as all three sit on 51 points.

Kendal dropped further back in sixth as Manchester took forth with a 14-25 win as the battle at the bottom intensified with Anselmains beating Northwich 18-7 and Penrith picking up a 29-12 win against Stockport.

In the final game of 2023 both Cumbrian sides are on the road on Saturday, December 16, as Penrith head to Manchester and Kendal travel to Northwich.

The top of the table will be reduced as Rossendale take on Blackburn while Macclesfield head to Stockport.

Sandbach welcome Anselmains while Wirral face Leek.

In Regional 2 North Percy Park sit top of the table after being awarded their match against Cockermouth on Saturday, December 9, while Northern squeezed past Middlesbrough 7-10 and Aspatria ran out 25-10 winners at home to Stockton.

Keswick lost 28-7 at Durham City as Upper Eden were sent back home with a 12-6 defeat to West Hartlepool and Consett beat Morpeth 27-19.

Leaders Percy Park head to Keswick on Saturday, December 16, while Northern face Aspatria and Middlesbrough travel to Cockermouth.

Upper Eden welcome Durham City as Stockton take on Consett and West Hartlepool travel to Morpeth.

In Regional 2 North West the league returned on Saturday, December 9, with leaders Birkenhead Park winning 46-5 at home to Whitchurch as second placed Bowden kept pace with a 21-16 victory over Vale of Lune and third placed Crewe & Nantwich took a 17-7 win against Liverpool St Helens.

Firwood Waterloo picked up a 48-10 win over Winnington Park and Altrincham Kersal came away with the points with a 23-28 victory at Burnage.

Kirkby Lonsdale will have to plan another trip to Douglas (I.O.M) as their game was postponed.

Birkenhead Park finish the year off with a trip to Altrincham Kersal on Saturday, December 6, as Bowden head to Whitchurch and Crewe & Nantwich travel to Vale of Lune.

Kirkby Lonsdale welcome Firwood Waterloo as Liverpool St Helens host Douglas (I.O.M) and Burnage make the trip to Winnington Park.

In the Cumbria league the sides were back in action on Saturday, December 9, as Carlisle came away from St Benedicts with a 0-33 win as Whitehaven won 7-37 at Aspatria 2nd while Wigton were 29-7 winners at home to Windermere.

Workington lost 10-24 to Egremont while Millom ran out 20-0 victors at home to Creighton and Hawcoat Park were awarded their game against Penrith 2nd.

Closing out 2023 leaders Carlisle welcome Hawcoat Park as St Benedicts head to Creighton on Saturday, December 16, Whitehaven welcoming Millom.

Egremont face Wigton while Penrith 2nd take on Keswick 2nd and Windermere play Aspatria 2nd.
