Cumbria’s Rugby Union Sides Fight Back To Win In Regional Leagues

Cumbria’s rugby union sides bounced back in the regional leagues as most of the teams registered wins.

Cumbria’s representatives in the Regional 1 North West both recorded victories on Saturday, November 11, as Kendal squeezed a 31-30 win at home to Wirral and Penrith ran out 38-15 victors against Anselmians.

Blackburn slipped to their first defeat of the season as Macclesfield took a 34-26 and Rossendale jumped to the top of the table after a 26-46 victory at Manchester.

Stockport swapped places with a 24-14 win at home to Leek and Northwich put some space between them and the bottom clubs with a 21-5 win over Sandbach.

The top three are all in action on Saturday, November 18, with Rossendale hosting Northwich, Blackburn welcome Stockport and Macclesfield head to Anselmians.

Leek take on Manchester while Wirral face Sandbach and the Cumbrian teams meet as Kendal face Penrith.

Percy Park are still seven points clear at the top of Regional 2 North after a 33-7 win over Stockton on Saturday, November 11, as Northern beat Consett 32-10 while Middlesbrough were 27-22 winners against Durham City.

Keswick took a last gasp winner 11-10 against Upper Eden, Aspatria are sitting fourth six points off third with a 27-24 win over West Hartlepool and Cockermouth lost 7-25 to Morpeth.

Percy Park take on part of the chasing pack when they host Middlesbrough on Saturday, November 18, while Northern head to West Hartlepool.

Aspatria head to Durham City while Stockton face Upper Eden as Keswick head to Morpeth and Cockermouth travel to Consett.

In Regional 2 North West Birkenhead Park moved clear at the top with a 13-46 win at Firwood Waterloo as Bowden were 26-33 winners at Douglas (I.O.M) on Saturday, November 11, while Crewe & Nantwich took third with a 33-24 victory over Winnington Park.

At the bottom of the table Vale of Lune ran out 63-5 victors against Whitchurch to jump off the bottom as Liverpool St Helens lost 21-18 to Altrincham Kersal and Kirkby Lonsdale were beaten 16-49 by Burnage.

Kirkby Lonsdale face a tough test when they travel to Birkenhead Park while second place Bowden host Firwood Waterloo on Saturday, November 18.

Third placed Crewe & Nantwich welcome Douglas (I.O.M), Burnage take on Liverpool St Helens while Altrincham Kersal play Vale of Lune and Winnington Park face Whitchurch.

In the Cumbria league the rugby was set to start early on Friday, November 10, as Penrith 2nd were to host Aspatria 2nd but the game was awarded to Penrith.

On Remembrance Day, Saturday 11, Carlisle were beaten 38-40 by Wigton while St Benedicts closed the gap with a 17-19 win at Keswick 2nd.

Whitehaven ran out 47-10 winners at home to Windermere as Egremont came back from Creighton with a 10-38 win and Hawcoat Park won 34-15 against Workington.

Carlisle will look to get to winning ways at Aspatria 2nd as Whitehaven head to Egremont to try and take second on Saturday, November 18.

The bottom two face off as Workington welcome Windermere, Hawcoat Park host Keswick 2nd, Millom take on Penrith 2nd and Creighton make the trip to Wigton.
