New Horror Five Nights At Freddy’s Hits UK Screens

It is the season to scare and Five Nights At Freddy’s brings a new terror to cinema screens.

But what is it all about?

The film is a game to screen adaptation of a franchise that has achieved cult status with the first video game being released on August 8, 2014, and the resulting series gaining worldwide popularity.

It is a simple concept, survive five nights at an abandoned pizzeria where the animatronics that once entertained come to life at night and kill anyone in the building.

The film is set in the abandoned Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza with animatronics Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy with security guard Michael Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson) and Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) all coming from the game, so far so good.

The main change is the villain with the games William Afton not a listed character but a Steve Raglan (Matthew Lillard) a career councillor it will be interesting to see how they have changed it.

There were several false starts for the film with Warner Bros starting one in 2015 before pulling out in 2017 for Blumhouse Productions and Striker Entertainment to eventually finish the film that stars Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Matthew Lillard.

It also went through several directors with Gil Kenan and Chris Columbus both starting before Emma Tammi took the role.

As for the creatures it took a different approach with Jim Henson’s creature shop responsible for the creation of the Fazbear animatronics.

With a 15 rating you might not expect much but as Blumhouse is the producer of M3GAN, The Black Phone and The Invisible Man it is one that could provide you with a few out of your seat moments.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is scheduled to be released simultaneously in theatres and on Peacock in the United States on October 27, 2023, but UK fans can see it from Wednesday, October 25.

In Cumbria the Ritz Cinema and Parkway in Workington, Zeffirellis in Ambleside, Alhambra (Lonsdale) Cinema in Penrith, Gaiety in Whitehaven and the Vue Barrow and Carlisle are all showing the film.
