A body has been recovered as emergency services searched for the man who fell into the River Eden.
Cumbria Police confirmed today, October 25, the body of a man was located at around 12.30pm.
This comes after officers were called to the River Eden on Sunday, October 22, following a report of concern for the welfare of a man on the bridge.
Officers attended and the man – in his 40s and from the Carlisle area – was found on the bridge, on the wrong side of the railings.
Despite the efforts of emergency services at the scene, the man fell from the bridge, shortly after 9pm.
As well as Cumbria Police, the incident has been attended by other emergency services including Cumbria Fire and Rescue and Penrith Mountain Rescue. A police helicopter also attended to aid with the search.
The family of the man being searched for have been made aware of today’s developments.
The death of the body recovered is not being treated as suspicious.
