Cumbria’s Rugby Union Sides Continue To Battle In Tight League

The Regional leagues are all tight with Cumbria’s rugby union sides all involved in the action.

In Regional 1 North West the sides return to action on Saturday, October 14, with Kendal drawing 25-25 at Leek while Penrith were given a rough lesson at Rossendale as they lost 106-14.

League leaders Blackburn stay top with a 45-3 win against Anselmians as Macclesfield won 12-41 at Sandbach to keep pace with them.

Northwich lost 17-32 to Stockport and Wirral won 31-24 at home to Manchester.

Both Cumbrian sides are at home as Kendal face joint leaders Blackburn and Penrith play Leek on Saturday, October 21, while Sandbach head to Stockport.

Anselmians welcome Wirral as Manchester play Northwich and Rossendale travel to joint leaders Macclesfield.

In Regional 2 North Percy Park lost 43-24 at Consett on Saturday, October 14, but stay five points clear at the top of the table after l Durham City were beaten 29-27 by West Hartlepool.

Aspatria made it three out of three with a 14-22 win at Upper Eden while Cockermouth were narrowly beaten 25-22 at Stockton.

In the later kickoffs Keswick lost 16-21 to Northern and Morpeth were beaten 28-38 by Middlesbrough who jump to second in the table.

Leaders Percy Park host West Hartlepool as they look to get back to winning ways on Saturday, October 21, while Middlesbrough welcome Consett and Durham City face Stockton.

In another Cumbrian derby Cockermouth welcome Keswick as Aspatria play Morpeth in the later kickoff with Northern hosting Upper Eden.

The top four in Regional 2 North West tightened with only two points separating the break away group after the games on Saturday, October 14.

Crewe & Nantwich have taken over at the top with a 16-23 win at Burnage while Bowden drop to third after a 37-26 loss to Birkenhead Park who jump to second and Firwood Waterloo slide to fourth after a 14-10 defeat at Whitchurch.

Leading the mid-table battle is Altrincham Kersal after a 25-20 win at home to Douglas (I.O.M) while Kirkby Lonsdale shared the points with a 19-19 draw at Vale of Lune and Winnington Park jumped up the table with a 66-26 win against Liverpool St Helens.

The top two meet on Saturday, October 21, as Crewe & Nantwich face Birkenhead Park while Bowden host Winnington Park and Firwood play Altrincham Kersal.

Kirkby Lonsdale host Whitchurch as Liverpool St Helens take on Vale of Lune and Douglas (I.O.M) welcome Burnage.

In the Cumbria League joint leaders Carlisle won 57-6 against north Cumbrian side Creighton on Saturday, October 14, as St Benedicts took a close game 20-25 at Egremont to keep pace at the top and third placed Aspatria 2nd beat Workington 38-29.

Whitehaven are up to fourth with a 42-8 win at home to Keswick 2nd, Wigton got revenge on Penrith 2nd with a 54-24 win and Windermere lost 0-29 to Millom.

The Cumbria league plays its last game in October on Saturday 21, Carlisle head to Wigton while St Benedicts host Hawcoat Park as they look to finish the month top of the table.

Whitehaven make the trip to Millom looking to take third while Creighton face Workington and Windermere travel to Keswick 2nd.
