Man Jailed For String Of Indecent Assaults On Children In 1970s Workington

A man was jailed for 12 years for offences including a string of indecent assaults on children in the 1970s.

Ronald Wilson was sentenced today for offences dating back decades after a police investigation saw him put before a court to answer for his crimes.

Detectives continue to stress that no matter how long ago a crime was committed, they will do their best to investigate on behalf of victims.

The 73-year-old, of Burnsall Court, Leeds carried out offences involving three child victims over four years in Workington.

After a week-long trial, he was found guilty of 12 charges – covering indecent assault and indecency with a child. He was subsequently sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Detective Constable Alexandra Todd oversaw the case.

After the sentencing, she said: “It’s never too late to report a crime – we will do our best for victims no matter how long ago the offences against them happened.

“No matter how much time has passed, support is available in Cumbria.

“The Constabulary works closely with trusted partner agencies to provide the appropriate support, which is tailored to an individual’s circumstances.

“Taking that first step to telling somebody what has happened to you is often the most difficult.

“But please know that if you do, you will be provided with information which will enable you to make choices on how you wish to move forward.”
