Carlisle Man Jailed For Assault, Burglary Among Other Offences

A Carlisle man has been jailed for assault, burglary and several other offences, as Cumbria Police encourage people to ‘remain vigilant’.

Michael Parker was sentenced sentenced to two years and three months yesterday, October 18, for a series of offences including burglary.

The 36-year-old, of Stonegarth, Carlisle was jailed at Carlisle Crown Court for:

  • Attempted burglary dwelling with intent to steal
  • Using threatening behaviour with intent to cause fear of unlawful violence
  • Vehicle interference
  • Two counts of burglary dwelling – with intent to steal
  • Assault by beating
  • Theft from a shop
  • Common assault

The offences relate to incidents in July.

In one incident, Parker tried a secure door handle attempting to enter a property in Denton Mill Close, Carlisle. Parker was confronted by the occupant pulled a plank of wood from a nearby bike shed and waved it at the occupant.

A dog walker saw this and intervened and Parker dropped the plank before threatening to have a knife and lunging at the occupant and dog walker before fleeing the scene.

In another incident, Parker was seen by the occupant entering his flat on Nelson Street and removing his trainers before the occupant forced him out of the flat, with Parker shouting and raising a wine bottle at the occupant.

Detective Sergeant Gary Story, Cumberland CID, said: “We take burglary, theft, and violence offences extremely seriously.

“Those who carry out such offences can also expect to face a police investigation and prosecution.

“We would like to remind people to remain vigilant to the threat of thefts and burglaries and report and suspicious persons or activity to police via our online reporting form, live chat or 101 or if a crime is occurring on 999.”
