Cumbrian Sides Win At National Conference Rugby League Awards

By Robert Haile

Cumbrian sides enjoyed a successful National Conference League awards ceremony in Manchester.

With nominations across most of the divisions the awards ceremony highlighted the strength and depth of Cumbrian rugby league a day after the county celebrated one of its famous sons with Kyle Amor’s testimonial.

New comers to Division Three Ellenborough finished off a fine season with promotion to Division Two but sadly outgoing coach Paul Gorge missing out on Division Three Coach of the Year to Oldham St Annes Paul Green but there was success for Zac Olstrom who took Player of the Year.

In Division One Egremont Rangers were up for several awards as they won the Social Media Award and Kris Tyson picked up Top Points Scorer with 224 points.

Unfortunately Egremont Rangers’ coach didn’t end his stint in charge with Division One Coach of the Year as John Wells was beaten by Dean Muir of West Bowling and Tyson didn’t add Player of the Year with West Bowling’s Oliver Bartle taking the honour.

Wath Brow Hornets’ Sam Weatherill took home Top Try Scorer crossing the line 27 times this season it wasn’t a double for the team as Cole Walker-Taylor missed out to Craig McShane as the Hunslet ARLFC player took home Premier Division Player of the Year.
