REVIEW: Reptile ‘A Quality Film From Top To Bottom’

By Gary

Reptile is a quality film from top to bottom as a this murder mystery feels like a Hitchcock masterpiece.

Tom Nichols (Benicio Del Toro) is a hardened New England detective, unflinching in his pursuit of a case where nothing is as it seems, and it begins to dismantle the illusions in his own life.

Will Grady (Justin Timberlake) is a Scarborough real estate mogul dating an agent named Summer (Matilda Lutz).

They flip foreclosures on expensive homes in the area under the watchful eye of Will’s mom, Camille (Frances Fisher), and there seems to be some brewing tension in the relationship.

One day, Will meets Summer at a house she’s showing and finds her brutally murdered.

Reptile is a mystery/thriller whodunnit which is eerie and spooky with very atmospheric music which is almost Hitchcockian.

I like how this film was shot and the choice of colours, it feels a little Film Noir in places.

The acting is very good, it takes awhile to get going but the story does draw you in and you become intrigued by the mystery.

This is a quality production from top to bottom – acting, writing, storyline, camera work, production.

Benicio Del Torro is a pleasure to watch. I feel like the story was somewhat familiar, but I appreciate a movie which re-covers a certain theme but in a quality way.

For those who enjoy an intelligent mystery/thriller, they will enjoy this movie. For those who want a more shoot ’em up, car chase, action-packed show, this will disappoint.

I’m not really sure why it is called Reptile.

Overall, I recommend to anyone who enjoys quality mystery/thriller productions.

My Rating: 8/10
