Kendal Go Third As Cumbria’s Rugby Union Sides Continue To Battle

Cumbria’s rugby union sides are continuing to battle as Kendal go third and Upper Eden and Kirby Lonsdale lurk outside the top four.

In Regional 1 North West league leaders Blackburn won 20-50 at Leek on Saturday, September 23, and Macclesfield moved into second with a 13-29 win Manchester as Rossendale won 71-7 against Anselmians

Wirral beat Stockport 28-10 as the two Cumbrian teams hit the road with Penrith lost 69-19 at Northwich and Kendal are up to third after a 17-30 win at Sandbach.

Kendal take on Rossendale as the pair look to close the gap to the top two on Saturday, September 30, as Blackburn host Wirral and Macclesfield welcome Northwich.

At the opposite end of the table Penrith take on Sandbach as both sides look to kickstart their season, Stockport play Manchester and Anselmians face Leek.

In Regional 2 North Upper Eden lost 3-32 league leaders Percy Park on Saturday, September 23, while in the Cumbrian derby Cockermouth pushed Aspatria all the way losing 10-11 and Keswick squeezed their first win of the season 16-15 at home to Middlesbrough.

Consett ran out 44-15 winners against West Hartlepool while in the later kick offs Morpeth moved into second with a 18-12 win over Durham City and Stockton lost 28-39 to Northern.

Cumbrian Derbies are like buses for Aspatria as they welcome Keswick on Saturday, September 30, while Upper Eden will look to get back on track at Middlesbrough.

Durham City host Consett and West Hartlepool play Stockton and in the later games Cockermouth head to Northern while the top two meet with Percy Park hosting Morpeth.

Three teams remain unbeaten in Regional 2 North West as Bowden take over at the top with a 25-33 win at Altrincham Kersal as Firwood Waterloo rack up another big win beating Liverpool St Helens 15-60 to move into second and Crewe & Nantwich drop to third with a close 8-14 win at Whitchurch on Saturday, September 23.

Kirkby Lonsdale picked up their second win of the campaign but it was a nail biting 30-31 success at Winnington Park, Burnage lost 36-41 at home to Birkenhead Park and Vale of Lune moved off the bottom with a 42-7 win against Douglas (I.O.M) who replace them at the foot of the table.

Table topping Bowden host Burnage on Saturday, September 30, while Firwood Waterloo face Vale of Lune and Crewe & Nantwich take on Altrincham Kersal.

Kirkby Lonsdale will be looking to pick up a home win when they face Liverpool St Helens as Douglas (I.O.M) take on Whitchurch and Birkenhead Park welcome Winnington Park.

There was a big win for Carlisle in the Cumbria League as they won 71-7 at home to Windermere on Saturday, September 23, Aspatria 2nd move up to second with a close 33-37 win at Keswick 2nd and St Benedicts take over third with a 55-7 win over Workington.

Hawcoat Park hold fourth after a 32-22 win against Millom while Egremont move up to fifth with a 22-53 win at Penrith 2nd and Creighton lost 15-22 to Whitehaven.

Penrith 2nd host Wigton on Friday, September 29, in an early start to the round.

Leaders Carlisle travel to Egremont and Hawcoat Park head to St Benedicts as fourth play third while Workington face Whitehaven.

At the bottom Keswick 2nd make the trip to Millom and Windermere play Creighton.
