Cumbria Police revealed on social media, a recent stop and search found a 13-year-old carrying a knife, in Whitehaven.
According to the Facebook post on Copeland Police, two officers carried out stop searches on Hensingham, in Whitehaven, following ‘concerns raised by a member of the public about some youths possibly in possession of knives’, yesterday, September 17.
The post went on to reveal a knife was retrieved from a youngster who was only 13 years old.
A Cumbria Police spokesperson told The Herdwick News: “While Cumbria is one of the safest places in the country to live, visit and work, Cumbria Constabulary is far from complacent with regards to knife possession in the county.
“Cumbria Police takes knife crime and issues with knives extremely seriously, which is why the Constabulary regularly takes part in Operation Sceptre knife amnesties and visits schools to educate young people on the dangers and consequences of being in possession of a knife.
“We also respond to all reports and will carry out searches where appropriate.
“The consequences of carrying a knife can be enormous.”
The post also said police apprehended a man on suspicion of burglar after he allegedly stole items from Tesco, where staff were able to assist officers in finding the man.
