Cumbria’s Emergency services can confirm the fire at Distington that prompted a large-scale response is now out and residents who left their homes can return safely.
The fire was a large-scale vehicle fire in an industrial yard at Main Street, Distington it was reported at 11.31pm yesterday, September 15, prompting road closures and other measures soon afterwards.
Ian Seel, area manager at Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We will continue to monitor the site over the next 24 hours but we can confirm the fire is now out.
“This incident caused a large level of disruption to those living nearby overnight. A swift multi-agency response was coordinated to keep people safe and tackle the fire.
“We’d like to thank the public who were impacted by this for their patience throughout.”
There may be some odour remaining following the fire and as such, people living nearby are asked to keep their windows and doors closed until this has dispersed.
There were no reported casualties and all road closures have been lifted.
