Mixed Bag For Cumbria’s Rugby Union Sides

Cumbria’s rugby union sides had mix fortunes in the national leagues as some have gotten off to a flying start as other struggle.

In Regional 1 North West Kendal were close to taking the point home with them as they lost 38-34 at Manchester on Saturday, September 9, as Penrith also on the road were beaten 32-23 by Stockport.

Leaders Blackburn are still top after a 8-47 win at Sandbach while Rossendale ran out 54-12 winners at home to Leek as Northwich got their first points at home to Anselmians with a 29-28 win and Wirral lost 32-48 to Macclesfield.

On Saturday, September 16, Blackburn host Rossendale in what could be an early title decider while Macclesfield will look to leap both of them as they host Stockport.

Penrith welcome Manchester as Kendal face Northwich, Anselmians play Sandbach and Wirral head to Leek.

There is a three way tie at the top of the Regional 2 North as Percy Park lead after a 10-47 win at Cockermouth on Saturday, September 9, as Upper Eden won 45-10 at home to West Hartlepool and Durham City take third with a 15-27 win at Keswick.

Aspatria lost 28-18 at Stockton and in the later kickoffs Morpeth beat Consett 27-23 and Northern ran out 36-10 winners against Middlesbrough.

Percy Park could go clear on Saturday, September 16, when they host Keswick and Durham City welcome Upper Eden.

Cockermouth make the trip Middlesborough as Consett take on Stockton while in the later games Aspatria play Northern and West Hartlepool host Morpeth.

In Regional 2 North West Kirkby Lonsdale picked up their first victory with a 19-13 at home to Douglas (I.O.M) on Saturday, September 9.

Crewe & Nantwich moved top with a 14-54 victory at Liverpool St Helens and Bowden joined them after a close 37-41 win at Vale of Lune.

Firwood Waterloo moved into fourth with a 27-36 victory at Winnington Park as Altrincham Kersal swapped places with Burnage after a 35-29 win and Birkenhead Park dropped to fifth after a 38-29 defeat at Whitchurch.

Leaders Crewe & Nantwich host Vale of Lune on Saturday, September 16, and Bowden face Whitchurch while Firwood Waterloo play Kirkby Lonsdale.

Fourth placed Altrincham Kersal head to Birkenhead Park, Douglas (I.O.M) welcome Liverpool St Helens and Winnington Park travel to Burnage.

Hawcoat Park have moved top of the Cumbria League after a 45-12 win over Egremont on Saturday, September 9, as Workington go second after a 37-20 win at home to Penrith 2nds.

Aspatria 2nds got underway with a 24-16 home win to Creighton to drop into fifth while Keswick 2nds sit sixth after a 34-29 victory over Millom and Whitehaven go ninth with a 14-20 win at Windermere.

All fourteen teams are set to take to the field on Saturday, September 16, with Hawcoat Park heading to Aspatria 2nd as second placed Carlisle make the trip to Whitehaven.

Workington welcome Creighton while Egremont host Silloth as Keswick 2nd head Wigton.

Windermere play Penrith 2nd and Millom face St Benedicts.
