Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water Meg 2: The Trench brings more than massive sharks to terrify you.
A research team encounters multiple threats while exploring the depths of the ocean, including a malevolent mining operation.
I really didn’t have high expectations of this movie, it seems all a bit cheesy to me – which it is, and Jason Statham is the king of this sort of movie, he can always be relied upon to deliver this same sort of performance so if you are a fan of his – I predict you will love this.
The Meg 2: The Trench is the second novel in Steve Alten’s MEG series and has Statham returning as Jonas and icon Wu Jing as Jiuming Zhang.
It follows on from the first film where Megs were discovered in the Mariana Trench and escaped.
Now the trench is being explored and as you can guess more Megs escape but this time are joined by some more creatures from the depths.
The film is a bit of a mixture of Jaws, Godzilla, and Jurassic Park with a bit of environmentalism thrown in as the trench is being mined for valuable minerals.
I did enjoy the film a little for what it is, but I doubt I will be watching it again.
My Rating: 6/10
