Red Bull claimed a sixth 1-2 of the season and fifteenth race win in a row as Max Verstappen made it 10 race wins to break the record set by Sebastian Vettel.
The Dutch two-time world champion had to settle for second as Carlos Sainz took pole position for Ferrari and held the lead of the the race.
Verstappen didn’t have to wait long and while pressuring Sainz the Ferrari driver made a mistake on the fifteenth lap giving Verstappen the chance he needed to take the race lead.
While Verstappen didn’t look back the battle for the podium was intense as Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, Sainz and Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc fought over the final two places on the podium.
It was only a lock-up by Leclerc on the last lap that settled the position as Perez, Sainz and Leclerc in fourth, but a good day for both teams.
On setting a new record, championship leader Verstappen said: “I never would of believed that was possible but we had to work for it today and that made it definitely a lot more fun.”

The Mercedes duo of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton had to settle for fifth and sixth after both getting five-second penalties with Williams’ Alex Albon taking seventh.
McLaren’s Lando Norris couldn’t quite beat the Williams to the line and finished eighth with Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas the last of the points scorers.
Liam Lawson might just be driving himself into an AlphaTauri seat for next season as he just missed out in eleventh with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri in twelfth and Logan Sargeant took thirteenth for Williams after a five-second penalty.
Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu finished fourteenth with Pierre Gasly’s Alpine, Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen the last of the finishers.
Only Esteban Ocon’s Alpine had to retire during the race as Yuki Tsunoda’s AlphaTauri gave up on the formation lap with engine failure.
Max Verstappen’s lead is increased to 145 points ahead of his teammate Sergio Perez in the Drivers Championship with Fernando Alonso 49 points off Perez in third.
The Constructors Championship has Red Bull 310 points ahead of Mercedes in second with Ferrari now in third 45 points behind and Aston Martin in fourth eleven off the Italian team.
The streets of Singapore call Formula One to Asia for the Marina Bay Circuit on September 15-17.
