A man found walking the streets of Carlisle with more than £10,000 worth of cannabis in a backpack has been jailed.

Dan-Lucian Muca, of Garden Street, Carlisle, admitted possession with intent to supply a Class A drug (cocaine) and possession with intent to supply a Class B drug (cannabis).

He was sentenced to three years and two months in prison.

The court heard how on May 4, 2023, officers had spotted a man acting suspiciously in the Etterby area of Carlisle.

The 39-year-old was also carrying a backpack which officers could see was full.

When officers approached Muca and asked what was in the backpack, Muca replied ‘drugs’.

Inside the backpack, officers found four large bags of cannabis which would subsequently be valued at over £10,000.

Officers then attended Muca’s home address where officers recovered a further 16 bags of cannabis, as well as small quantities of other drugs including cocaine.

Officers also recovered other items at the address including digital scales, snap-seal bags and cash.

The case forms part of Operation Alliance – Cumbria Constabulary’s ongoing response to protect the county against serious and organised crime.

Detective Constable James Bowness of Cumberland CID’s Community Serious Organised Crime Unit said: “Our officers are on the streets of Cumbria proactively looking to identify those involved in organised crime.

“Muca had on him a significant amount of drugs, whilst a search of his address revealed further evidence of his involvement in drug supply.”
