Make The Most Of Holker Hall And Gardens This Summer

Holker Hall and Gardens is inviting visitors to make a summer of it with a month-long ticket offer.

Throughout August anyone buying a ticket for the Hall or Gardens will be able to return as many times as they like, and make the most of the South Lakes’ best kept secret.

Aiming to help people feeling the pinch with the cost of living and maximising summer staycations, the offer makes it possible to fully explore every inch of the historic building and 25-acre gardens.

Fran Horne, head of visitor services, said: “There’s a huge amount to discover at Holker Hall and we want people to be able to make the most of the summer holidays, and maybe discover one of Cumbria’s hidden treasures for the first time.

“The hall is packed with history and heritage, plus we’ve got a huge amount of green space which is perfect for people of all ages to enjoy and explore.

“And we know that some people are facing tricky financial times, so this is one way we’re giving back and making sure Holker Hall is accessible to everyone.”

Holker Hall was built in 1603 and has been in the Cavendish family since the 1700s. During that time it’s been home to scientists, MPs and more besides, so there’s always another story to hear or insight to uncover.

Inside, visitors can speak to one of the hall guides to get expert insight into the estate’s rich heritage and take advantage of the tablets providing an audio visual guide to the Hall, including a bit of romance and scandal.

And the estate’s extensive grounds include the pristine gardens, a children’s playground, and deer park, all perfect for summer days out.

Visitors can also take in a unique sculpture made from Cumbrian stone and created by artist Julie Brook – her only accessible outdoor work in the UK – deep in the deer park as part of an exhibition with Kendal’s Abbot Hall gallery.

Delicious food and drink can be purchased at the courtyard cafe, there are great finds in the  gift shop, plus  ‘A Day’s Walk’  has a fabulous range of produce from makers within a day’s walk of the site.

As well as the August ticket offer, as usual members of the Historic Houses Association go free and RHS members receive two for one garden entry.

Entrance to the hall and gardens is £14.75 or entry for the gardens only is £10.50, while under 12’s go free.
