Four comedians have been confirmed for the annual Maryport Taste of the Sea festival launch evening.
The launch event, which takes place on Friday 11 August, for Maryport Taste of the Sea – in partnership with Maryport Town Council – will feature comedians Dave Twentyman, Andy White, Chris Washington and Andy Askin.
This is to kick off the food and drink festival which will be back in the heart of the town on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 August.
Dave Twentyman serves as MC for the evening and has been described as ‘brilliant’ by TV comic John Bishop. His style is described as upbeat, cheery and warm, and this seasoned northern comedian can endear himself to even the rowdiest of crowds.
Andy White mixes daft voices with observational and topical humour and shifts his act from deadpan to loud and physical in a moment, while rising star Chris Washington also packs on the northern charm. He’s been nominated as best newcomer at the Edinburgh Fringe and he’s been nicknamed ‘Peter Kay for the smartphone generation’ after appearing alongside the likes of Jason Manford.
The fourth comic on stage will be Andy Askins, praised as ‘totally hilarious’ by fellow funnyman Ross Noble. Armed with a guitar and a cheeky grin, he’s bringing his musical talents to Maryport but guests are warned not to be distracted by his impish demeanour – he has dark killer lines amid his remakes of popular songs.
Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council’s Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, said: “Yet again, we’ve got a brilliant line-up for Maryport Taste of the Sea comedy night. It’s great to be able to add this to the mix at our fabulous food and drink festivals.
“There will be loads going on for families over the whole weekend, but this one is strictly for the grown ups! Our comedy nights usually sell out so my advice is to buy those tickets quickly – and I hope you have a great night.”
Tickets cost £20 and are on sale now HERE. The show starts at 7.30pm and takes place at Maryport ARLFC, Mealpot Road.
