National Disappointment For Cumbria’s Bowlers As Rain Hits League Fixtures

Cumbria’s County teams were all beaten at the weekend as the weather got the better of some the midweek leagues.

The county teams were looking to book places at the Bowls England National Finals and semifinal games if they made it.

Eden Valley Mixed Triples

Fitz Park A have stretched their lead at the top of the Eden Valley Mixed Triples Division One.

As one of two games that survived on Tuesday, July 18, Fitz Park A beat Lazonby 6-4 while Fitz Park B lost 8-2 at Penrith Friars B

The top of Division Two has tightened up after Temple Sowerby took advantage of the top two meeting on Tuesday, July 18.

Caldbeck keep top spot with a 4-6 win at Penrith Castle Park as Temple Sowerby go joint top with an 2-8 win at Appleby B while Skelton won 8-2 against Penrith Friars A.

Eden Valley Mixed Rinks

The top two of Mixed Rinks League met with Caldbeck taking a 6-2 win against Fit Park A while Penrith Friars drew 4-4 with Appleby on Thursday, July 20.

Lazonby closed the gap to third with an 0-8 win at Penrith Castle Park as Fitz Park B beat Temple Sowerby 6-2 and Shap were 2-6 winners at Skelton.

West Cumbria Mixed Triples League

In the Mixed Triples League no play was possible due to the weather on Tuesday, July 18.

In a rearranged fixture Cleator Moor beat Harris Park A 4-5.

The grey sky had not moved on Friday, July 21, but the rain held off as all games were played.

At the top Whitehaven A won 7-0 at home to Seaton.

In the race for third Fitz Park lost 3-4 to Cleator Moor and Whitehaven B lost 3-4 to Workington B while Cockermouth closed to gap with a 7-0 victory over Vulcan Park.

The night before Thursday, July 20, Workington A won 4-3 against Maryport.

County Matches

Three of Cumbria’s County teams were in action over the weekend with two looking to book their places to the National Finals.

The Middleton Cup and the Johns Trophy sides both faced Lincolnshire with a spot at Royal Leamington Spa on offer.

The players selected for the Middleton Cup Team were:-

Sadly for both sides it wasn’t to be with the Middleton Cup losing 110 to 100 while the Johns Trophy team went down 133-116.

All eyes will now be turning to Cumbria’s Final weekend where the counties champions will be decided.
