A Whitehaven piercing store, The Abattoir, is holding a charity event to raise funds for West Cumbria Search and Rescue, today.

It was announced on social media, the West Cumbrian store is having a charity piercing day today, July 15, where £10 from all piercings will go to the specialist search and rescue team for equipment and supplies.

West Cumbria Search and Rescue was chosen as The Abattoir’s owner, Lea Somerfield, volunteers with the charity and told The Herdwick News about the need the service has for more funding to continue to support the community.

He said: “I’m the medic for West Cumbria Search and Rescue and we desperately need funds to maintain the equipment and vehicles and replace valuable medical equipment that we use in our callouts and place the new recruits on specialist courses in swift water rescue and lowland searches.”

This isn’t the only charity and causes the owner has supported; to celebrate the NHS’ 75th birthday all NHS Workers were able to get £10 off any piercing or upgraded jewellery and in June the charity day was to raise funds for R.F.N Fitness & Wellbeing Centre, that supports young people learn boxing and fitness skills.

The charity piercing day takes place at The Abattoir today, Saturday, July 15 between 9am and 5pm.
