Racing will return to Cartmel over the penultimate weekend of July with two full days of jumping.

As well as having a flutter on the races, visitors can soak up the carnival atmosphere and revel in the stunning surroundings of the South Cumbrian course on Saturday July 22 and Monday July 24.

Already this season the course has welcomed over 35,000 people, making a significant contribution to the local economy and attracting people from all across the northwest. 

Racegoers attending the July weekend are invited to bring their own food and drink to enjoy on the course, or to sample locally produced food and beverages available on site including Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding, Morecambe Bay Shrimp and beers from Bowness Bay Brewery. 

Families won’t be forgotten either, with plenty of space for the kids to play games or get a thrill at the funfair. 

On the day gates will open at 9am with the Louis Roederer Restaurant open from 11.30, plus the option to book for the course’s new Paddock Lawn Tipi which offers its own bar and excellent views of the home straight. 

Racecourse director Geraldine McKay said: “We’ve had a fantastic start to the season here at Cartmel and we know how much our visitors enjoyed the Bjorn Again show last month, but there’s plenty more still to come.

“We pride ourselves on the atmosphere that we create along with our visitors, and we’re sure that our July dates will be no different.

“So whether you’re planning on having a flutter, or simply a wonderful day out with your family and friends, we’re looking forward to welcoming you to Cartmel.”

The course, already a firm favourite with regular visitors, sits in picturesque parkland next to Cartmel Village, home of the famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding, and is just a stone’s throw from the edge of the Lake District National Park, plus it is dog-friendly.

Offering unparalleled views for the crowds, Cartmel’s course encircles the enclosures ensuring that there are no ‘blind spots’ and, for those wanting to get a closer look at the action, giant video screens are erected in several locations.
