Copeland MP Congratulates Gosforth Primary School Amid Bright Stars Challenge for Mindfulness Project Win

Copeland MP Trudy Harrison has given a big thumbs-up to a fantastic school for their outstanding efforts in promoting mindfulness after Gosforth Primary School secured first place in the annual Bright Stars challenge’s ‘Most Positive Long Term Impact’ category.

The star of their achievement is the impressive Mini Book of Mindfulness, packed to the brim with valuable advice on enhancing mental well-being, including delightful recommendations for walks, recipes, and activities.

Mrs Harrison visited Gosforth School, where she engaged with the Year 6 pupils to shed light on her roles as the Member of Parliament for Copeland and a Minister in Defra. The visit also provided her with a golden opportunity to delve deeper into their Bright Stars project.

Mrs Harrison expressed her delight, saying: “I had an absolute pleasure visiting Gosforth School. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the pupils for producing such an excellent book brimming with fabulous ideas to promote positivity and mental well-being. I was immensely impressed by the pupils’ keen interest and understanding of Parliament and the democratic process, evident in the well-thought-out questions they posed.

“Moreover, I was pleased to witness their passion for climate change, the environment, and our precious wildlife. It was heartwarming to learn about the school and home-based initiatives they are all taking to combat the decline of nature, such as creating hibernaculums in their Forest School. Oh, and I left with a splendid recipe for nettle crisps, courtesy of one of the more adventurous pupils.”

Sarah Layzell, the Year 6 Teacher, said:”The children collaborated harmoniously to create the contents of the booklet and gained invaluable insights into the workings of a business.”
