Cumbria Cricket League: Furness Top Two Divisions As Whitehaven Remain Undefeated

Furness have moved into top spot in the Premier and Division One of the Cumbria Cricket League as Whitehaven 2nd remain unbeaten in Division Two.

In the Premier Division the battle at the top continues as Workington host Carlisle on Saturday, June 17.

Batting first Workington slumped to 30 for 4 wickets lost as Carlisle’s bowlers set off quickly.

Callum Sutton reached 40 before Nico Watt bowled him and Matthew Lowden’s 58 not out helped the home side to 150.

Chasing Nico Watt opened with a quick 21 before being caught out and Marc Brown’s 45 helped take Carlisle to 151.

Furness leaped to the top of the table after winning the toss and putting Keswick into bat.

Will Atkinson’s 35 and James McGowen’s 39 top scored as Keswick made 193.

Furness’ batters didn’t hand around as Yash Dubey scored 65 and Nathan Waterston reached 77 not out as they chased Keswick down scoring 198.

Cockermouth were put into bat by visiting Millom and after two early wickets Ryan Carruthers made 125 as the home side finished on 228.

Chasing Millom were bowled out for 152 with Pancha Maduwantha scoring 32 as Alex Grainger took 4 wickets for 28 runs.

The full 100 overs were bowled as Haverigg took on Lindal Moor.

Winning the toss visiting Lindal Moor decided to bat first and Aseem Wadhwa scored 101 with Paul Wilcock making 51 as Lindal finished on 275 while Jordan Postlethwaite took 4 wickets for 48 runs.

Haverigg took it the full distance but Dale Graham’s 75, Drew Postlethwaite’s 43 and 31 runs for Jordan Postlethwaite and Joe Harvey were not enough as they finished on 247, 28 runs short.

Egremont won the toss at Whitehaven and put the hosts into bat with openers Stephen Holliday’ 37 and Leo Sanczuk’s 46 setting the foundation as Whitehaven finished on 206 as Alex Hodgson took 4 wickets for 34 runs.

Chasing Matthew Hunter scored 62 but Egremont struggled to find anyone to stay at the other end with Vathsal Govind making 27 as they were bowled out for 143 with Stephen Holliday taking 4 wickets for 47.

Batting first Wigton made a massive 313 with Matthew Reed’ 86, Kieran Little 74 and Flynn Manihera’ 59 scoring well with Cleator’s Douglas Hughes taking 3 wickets for 47 runs.

Wigton’s John Reed took 5 wickets for 39 runs as Cleator’s chase got off well with Abdul Muzammil’ 49 and Darren Clark making 69 before it stuttered and late flurry from Thomas Whitfield-Bott with 25 and Joe Fearon’s 21 taking them to 255 from their 50 overs.

League leaders Furness head to Egremont on Saturday, June 24, while Workington are away to Keswick and Carlisle travel to Haverigg.

Cleator host Whitehaven, Lindal Moor face Cockermouth and Millom take on Wigton.

It was a low scoring game for the leader of Division One on June 17, as Furness 2nd went to Vickerstown.

Batting first Vickerstown were bowled out for 97 with Tom Savage making 44 as Mitchell Smith took 5 wickets.

Furness’ Will Mitchell made 30 and George Smith 25 as the visitors reached 98 to stay top.

Winning the toss Ulverston batted first against Millom 2nd and Ben Dryden made 110 as Ulverston were bowled out for 205 with Cade Heavyside taking 6 wickets.

Chasing Millom took it to the last ball with Cade Heavyside and Dominic Connor taking them over the line to 206.

Dalton won the toss and put the visiting Cockermouth 2nd into bat and top five all made double figures with Connor Steadman top scoring with 42 as they were bowled out for 140.

Daniel Sharpe scored 42 and Callum Leech 27 took Dalton to 143.

Seascale welcomed Workington 2nd who won the toss and put the hosts into bat.

Adam Brown’s 71 led the way as the home side made 260 as Regan Jackson took 4 wickets.

Chasing Liam Hazard’s 71 was not enough as Workington were bowled out for 169.

Kirkby in Furness batted first against Hawcoat Park and Mike Fugler scored 71 as they finished on 190.

Hawcoat Park chased Kirkby down making 191 with Callum Lucas making 51.

The action continues on June 24, as Furness 2nd host Dalton, Cockermouth 2nd face Ulverston and Millom 2nd head to Hawcoat Park.

Seascale play Kirkby in Furness and Vickerstown travel to Workington 2nd.

Division Two leaders Whitehaven 2nd remain unbeaten after a 5 wicket win at Lindal Moor 2nd on Saturday, June 17.

Putting the hosts into bat Lindal Moor made 202 with Billy Hughes making 100 not out.

Kian Larmour led they chase with 60 as Whitehaven made 206.

Cleator 2nd hosted Barrow who batted first with Matthew Adams 65 and Ollie Whalley 56 helping take their total to 193.

It was an unsuccessful chase for Cleator as they were bowled out for 102 with Steven Wishart 21 and Adam Blake 24 top of the Cleator batters.

It was a short game between Ulverston 2nd and Haverigg 2nd.

Haverigg won the toss and put hosts Ulverston into bat and dismissed them for 74 in 17 overs with Sam Huddleston taking 5 wickets for 17 runs.

Chasing Haverigg took 12 overs with Anthony Johnson score 38 and Samuel Adams 26 as they reached 77.

Dalton 2nd conceded their trip to Egremont 2nd.

Leaders Whitehaven 2nd host Cleator 2nd on June 24 while Ulverston 2nd face Lindal Moor 2nd and Dalton 2nd take on Haverigg 2nd.

Egremont 2nd make the trip to Barrow on Sunday, June 25.
