A6 Road Improvement Timed To Reduce Summer Holiday And Kendal Calling Delay

The A6 at Eamont Bridge is set to receive a new road surface from today as a part of the council’s annual programme aimed at improving priority roads.

Starting on Monday, June 12, resurfacing and drainage works will be carried out across a five working day period from 100m south of the road bridge to the junction B5320, Pooley Bridge Road.

Councillor Peter Thornton, Cabinet Member for Highways and Assets said: “I’m delighted that we are able to improve this road surface which will benefit all road users.

“We are carrying out these essential resurfacing and drainage works at this time to maximise daylight hours and make sure the works are complete before the peak summer holiday period and the start of Kendal Calling.

“Although the works will offer significant improvement to your journey once complete, we recognise the short-term disruption they will cause during peak periods.

“We thank you for your patience and advise road users to plan their journey ahead.”

The works will make the road safer for motorists, cyclists and other road users, and the area quieter for the adjacent residents.

The A6 will remain open under traffic signal control with some convoy working, and Traffic Marshalls will be on site to monitor the flow of traffic.

A closure of the B5320 junction at The Crown Eamont Bridge will be in place between Monday 12, and Thursday 15 June to make sure our highways team can work efficiently and safely.

There will be a period of extended evening working on Thursday, June 15, to facilitate the completion of the resurfacing works.

Businesses in the area will be open as usual and can be accessed via a fully signed diversion on the A66 west and A592 through Pooley Bridge.

We advise road users to plan their journey to allow for possible long delays during peak periods of the day or find an alternative route where possible.
